UAMS Breast Cancer Program Benefits from Televised Shoe Sale
| June 11, 2012 | A recent donation resulting from a nationwide shoe sale on the multimedia retailer QVC has benefited breast cancer research and education in Arkansas. The 18th Annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” selected the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as one of the eight beneficiaries of the sale, which took place in October 2011. A check in the amount of $414,715 was presented by QVC and FFANY (Fashion Footwear Association of New York) representatives to Cancer Institute director Peter Emanuel, M.D. “We are honored to be one of only eight cancer centers across the country to benefit from this annual event,” Emanuel said. “We are very thankful to QVC and FFANY for the support they continue to demonstrate in the fight against breast cancer.” Other UAMS representatives on hand to receive the donation were V. Suzanne Klimberg, M.D., director of the UAMS Breast Cancer Program; Kent Westbrook, M.D., distinguished professor, and Ronda Henry-Tillman, M.D., professor, in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Surgery; and board member Win Rockefeller Jr. Since its inception, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” has sold more than 1 million pairs of shoes and donated more than $38 million to leading breast cancer research and education institutions. |
