for Women’s History Month.

March 22, 2011 | Women and their resiliency were celebrated March 17 at UAMS’ annual Women’s History Month observance. Held in the Fred Smith auditorium at the Jackson T. Stephens Spine Institute, the lunchtime event honored 29 employees nominated as “phenomenal women” by their peers.

UAMS employees and departments were asked to participate in the campus wide celebration by selecting a woman within their work area they considered phenomenal. The event included a showing of excerpts from the movie “Steel Magnolias,” followed by a discussion on loss, hope, strength and resiliency in women moderated by Margaret Morgan and Michelle Phillips.

Employees nominating co-workers as phenomenal women were asked to write a one-page essay, describing why their selection was phenomenal and to consider a woman who made a significant contribution to UAMS, to her family, or to the community; or overcame adversity; or demonstrated UAMS core values of integrity, respect, teamwork, creativity or excellence.

Essays nominating the Phenomenal Women and their photos were displayed at the event. Each woman honored received a certificate presented by Dean Stephanie Gardner of the UAMS College of Pharmacy and Dean Claudia Barone of the College of Nursing.
