UAMS Expands Look Good … Feel Better Program for Cancer Patients

By Susan Van Dusen

Look Good … Feel Better is now offered twice monthly for women in active cancer treatment. Sessions are available at 1:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute and at 10 a.m. on the second Friday of each month at the UAMS Family Home, 4300 W. Markham. Women need not be UAMS patients to participate.

Due to Presidents’ Day, the February session at the Cancer Institute will be held Feb. 8.

To register, call the Cancer Institute Patient Support Center at (501) 686-5578.

With the guidance of a licensed and specially trained cosmetologist, participants take part in a hands-on workshop that includes a 12-step skin care and make-up application lesson; a demonstration of options for dealing with hair loss, including advice on wigs and scarves; and nail care techniques. All participants also receive a complimentary bag filled with name-brand cosmetics.

The national program is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association and the Personal Care Products Council.
