UAMS Receives Executive, Public Relations Awards

The UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing also was recognized for its publications, advertising, graphic design work, newsletters, video productions and photographs during two recent awards events.

John Baker, Ph.D., a professor of Health Policy and Management in the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, and Brian Barnett, chief operating officer of the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, received awards during the recent annual meeting of the Arkansas Hospital Association.

Baker was named the Senior Level Healthcare Executive of the Year while Barnett, a 2005 graduate of the UAMS health policy and management program and a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, was selected as the organization’s Early Career Healthcare Executive of the Year.

The awards were selected based on leadership, contributions to the health care profession and leadership or participation in the health association’s work at the local, state or national level.

Also during the hospital association meeting, the UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing picked up two Diamond Awards, five Judge’s Merit mentions and12 Certificates of Excellence. The Diamond Awards, the highest award given by the group, were to editor Susan Van Dusen, art director Laurie Shell and photographer Johnpaul Jones for the UAMS HouseCall magazine and to writer Nate Hinkel for his article “Bridge Over Troubled Water” in the Cancer Institute’s Seek magazine.

The UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing also was recognized at the annual awards ceremony of the Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America with two Prisms and six finalists.

Van Dusen, Shell and Jones received a Prism Award in the Periodicals category for the Cancer Institute’s Seek magazine. Van Dusen received a Prism for feature/news writing for her story “No Hair Day” that appeared in Seek.
