UAMS Benefit Luncheon to Support Geriatric Nurse Training
| LITTLE ROCK – A benefit luncheon for a Proceeds from the luncheon will provide eight-week geriatric nursing externships awarded by the Arkansas Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at UAMS. Allan Ward, Ph.D., professor emeritus at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will be the guest speaker with “The Sage in All of Us,” sharing his insights and wisdom about continuing to be a vital member of the community. Ward retired from an award-winning teaching career at UALR in 2000 and is an author, lecturer and longtime community activist. He has an extensive background of multi-cultural awareness and community improvement efforts both locally and globally. These competitive geriatric nursing externships are offered during the summer between students’ junior and senior years. Students train with nursing leaders, researchers and educators and work at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has 2,538 students and 733 medical residents. Its centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the
