Aquatic physical therapy is skilled physical therapy performed in the water under the direct instruction and supervision of a licensed therapist. Prior to beginning aquatic physical therapy, each patient will have a physical therapy evaluation to determine if aquatic physical therapy is appropriate.
Patients with the following conditions may benefit from aquatic physical therapy. Conditions include:
- Neck pain
- Chronic pain
- Low back pain
- Pre/post joint replacements
- Injuries requiring modified weight bearing
- Balance and agility deficits
- Other conditions that limit the patient’s ability to exercise on land
The facility in the Spine and Neurosciences Institute includes a whirlpool room next to the pool, a ramp for handicap accessibility and a unique walking track in waist-deep water with handrails.
