Shoulder and Elbow Arthroscopy

elbow and shoulder arthroscopy

Arthroscopy, a cutting-edge, minimally-invasive procedure used for joint conditions, is among the specialized services UAMS offers in our Orthopedic Clinic. Our expert orthopedic surgeon can use arthroscopy to evaluate and treat your shoulder and elbow conditions.

Shoulder and elbow conditions most frequently treated or found through arthroscopy include:

  • Inflammation
  • Injuries such as dislocations, rotator cuff tears and impingement syndrome
  • Pieces of loose bone and/or cartilage

Arthroscopy generally involves inserting an arthroscope, a small tube that consists of lenses, video camera and a light, through a small incision in the skin. This allows our surgeon to see the interior of the joint on a screen.

Recovery time depends on the extent of the surgery and on the individual patient. However, most arthroscopic surgery is done on an outpatient basis, and patients are allowed to go home within hours after the surgery.

Please see our Orthopedic Clinic for information on how to make an appointment.
