The Arkansas River Trail is a beautiful outdoor opportunity that winds its way across the entire metropolitan area, through Little Rock and North Little Rock, connecting 38 parks, six museums and 5,000+ acres of federal, state and local parkland. Expansive and of primarily flat-terrain, the trail offers recreational opportunities for people of all ages, fitness levels, interests and health conditions.
The Big Dam Bridge is the longest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in North America, so impressive a structure it was named as such because of its massive 4,226 foot span built atop Murray Lock and Dam. Iconic to Little Rock, you can’t miss this bridge that serve bicyclists and pedestrians 90 feet above the Arkansas River.
For a more interactive experience along the river, check out Heifer International Headquarters that was built on the site of a long-abandoned railroad yard. This non-profit organization working to help end hunger and poverty is an awesome experience for the entire family with their ranch and farm. There, you can shop fair trade items, tour the green world headquarters and the restored wetlands, or grab a bite at the cafe.
