Also called: Heart Care
Our team offers surgery and minimally-invasive procedures that help keep your heart working efficiently. With experts from around the United States and the world, we run the UAMS Health Heart Center. The Heart Center is home to our Cardiology Clinic and our Cardiothoracic Clinic. Our doctors include cardiologists, interventional cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons (heart surgeons) whose one goal is to help your heart work properly.
Our interventional cardiologists use minimally invasive techniques to treat blockages in your vessels and arteries. By using catheters instead of surgery, we can treat patients with heart disease who aren’t candidates for open-heart surgery. One of our specialties is treating patients who have chronically blocked arteries (chronic coronary occlusion).
We also offer evaluations for people who have chronic chest pain and haven’t seen success with other treatments.
Structural Heart Care
A part of interventional cardiology, structural heart care is focused on repairing the structures of the heart using minimally-invasive techniques. We repair and replace heart valves due to heart valve disease or congenital heart disease and defects. The most common of these diseases are aortic valve disease, mitral valve disease, and atrial fibrillation (afib).
The UAMS Health structural heart team takes part in clinical trials that evaluate new devices and procedures to treat structural heart disease.
Cardiac electrophysiology is an area of medicine focused on treating rhythm issues, like afib, in a person’s heart. At the UAMS Health Heart Center, patients who have heart rhythm problems, heart blockages, or heart valve problems can go to one convenient clinic to see different heart specialists. Patients with genetic heart problems are managed in close collaboration with the UAMS Health genetics team. We have a particular focus on implantable heart devices and cardiac ablation to correct abnormal heart rhythm.
UAMS Health staffs Arkansas Children’s, the largest system of children’s hospitals and clinics in the state. Our doctors offer expert pediatric cardiology care for patients from one day old to 21 years old.
