Absent contractility (also called aperistalsis) is an esophageal motility disorder where there is a complete lack of muscle contractions in the esophageal body during swallowing. In simpler terms, the esophagus doesn’t push food down at all, making it difficult or even impossible for food to move into the stomach effectively.
