Breast cancer affects millions of people around the world. Not only does it change the lives of the women and men who suffer from this devastating illness, but also the lives of their loved ones. You or your partner don’t have to wait until October (which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in case you didn’t know) to schedule a screening. In fact, regular screening, and early detection, when it is still localized, have resulted in a 99% relative survival rate.
Whether you need a mammogram for breast cancer screening, or you are referred to us for more advanced breast cancer care, our breast care team offers the most cutting-edge diagnostic tools and treatments you will find anywhere in the state, giving many patients same-day results and added peace of mind.
So, what happens if we find breast cancer?
No one wants to hear they have breast cancer, but the good news is more women are living longer and healthier lives with breast cancer. After detection, our expert breast care team reviews your case, and they create a treatment plan specific to your cancer’s unique footprint. Whether you need surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of all three, we will be with you every step of the way through survivorship.
National Accreditation
The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is home to Central Arkansas’ only breast team accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Our breast team includes breast radiologists and surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, behavioral scientists, geneticists, and a clinical trials team. And as the state’s only health sciences university, UAMS is home to leading cancer researchers who routinely conduct breast cancer clinical trials.
In addition to our NAPBC accreditation, our Breast Center is recognized by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Center of Excellence.
