Dr. Virmani's Research
During his medical school training, his research in basic neuroscience explored the physiologic mechanisms by which neurons in the brain communicate with one other using chemical neurotransmitters at the synapse.
While at Columbia University for his fellowship, Virmani became interested in the principles underlying the phenomenon of freezing of gait in Parkinson disease. He undertook a clinicopathologic study under the mentorship of Dr. Stanley Fahn and Dr. Jean-Paul Vonsattel (Department of Pathology, Columbia University Medical Center). He also worked with Dr. Fahn to start a clinical trial using a novel motor-neuronotrophic factor for potential neuroprotection in Parkinson disease.
He continues to pursue his research interests at UAMS.

Still very unsure of my health needs. Took too long to get the appointments and my body, nerves and brain continue to worsen. Attending doc was good yet long delays to defining rx and proposed test probably require an allergic contrast, as is indicated in my medical file since [OTHER FACILITY] years ago.

I have been a patient as well as my husband and father in law and I have referred multiple people to UAMS. 2 ladies have appointments with the movement clinic in December I referred I believe, they also have PD. By far the BEST most CARING hospital AROUND. Dr Virmani is amazing and will listen when I tell him my concerns!

The nurses need to figure which blood pressure cuff to use. The past 2 years, they have used one that was too tight. It left marks on my arm that lasted 5 days. So please help them better asses which cuff to use.

All of the staff are very friendly and I feel very comfortable talking to everyone there. I feel encouraged and appreciated when I do the studies with my doctor. I do recommend to my friends that also have Parkinson's to go to Dr. [Virmani] or to UAMS and I will continue to do so. Thank you.
