Gout is a form of arthritis. It is characterized by sudden, intense joint pain, tenderness, redness, warmth and swelling. It is the result of too much uric acid in the body’s tissues and fluids. Things that can make gout worse include obesity, high blood pressure, high alcohol consumption and a diet rich in certain types of meat and seafood.
