Addiction medicine is a medical specialty focused on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of individuals suffering from substance use disorders (SUDs), which include addiction to alcohol, drugs, and other addictive behaviors. This field also addresses the medical and psychological complications that arise from these disorders, such as withdrawal symptoms, co-occurring mental health conditions, and long-term effects on physical and emotional well-being.
UAMS Health offers help for those struggling with addiction. The Six Bridges Clinic offers assistance to Arkansas residents between the ages of 12 and 21 who are dealing with substance dependency.
