Some men may experience unwanted and sometimes painful growth of one or both breasts. This is known as gynecomastia. There are many causes of gynecomastia and oftentimes the condition resolves on its own or by removing the underlying cause. However, in men with persistent issues, surgery may be warranted. Gynecomastia surgery, or male breast surgery, involves the removal of excess breast tissue and/or fat from the breast. In some cases, excess skin may have to be removed and the nipple/areola repositioned.
