JEI Optical Shop 2

The shop’s design, completed by Polk Stanley Wilcox in Little Rock, was recently honored at the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) South Central Chapter 2015 Excellence in Design Awards Gala in New Orleans.

The optical shop, which opened in the fall of 2014, was designed by Polk Stanley Wilcox in Little Rock. The shop received the bronze award in the retail category of commercial design. The regional awards represented interior designs from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The commercial design award in retail was awarded based on the overall design of space and judged on general aesthetic, space plan, lighting, materials used, color composition, furnishings and overall design solution.

“We are delighted with our new optical shop, and are extremely pleased to see this recognition for its design awarded,” said Christopher T. Westfall, M.D., chairman of the UAMS Department of Ophthalmology and director of the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute. “Polk Stanley Wilcox was able to meet all our needs in creating a more inviting and accommodating shop for our customers.”

After 20 years in a congested, 415-square-foot shop on the first floor of JEI, the optical shop moved to a spacious, 840-square-foot location across the hall. The shop boasts an open main floor with frames spread out evenly across the shop’s walls, a large desk near the center of the room to help patients, and a separate, walled-off workspace in the back.

With a premier spot on the first floor, it’s hard to miss the welcoming ceiling-to-floor windows lined with an array of frames from many brands in eye-catching displays. In addition to more floor space for customers, the shop can support more options, as it now holds about 700 frames from more than 25 brands, including Ray-Ban, Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Coach.
