Fellowship-Trained Colon and Rectal Surgeon W. Conan Mustain, M.D., Joins UAMS

W. Conan Mustain, M.D., colon and rectal surgeon

Mustain is board-certified in general surgery and board-eligible in colon and rectal surgery. He specializes in the treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse and benign anorectal conditions.  His special interests include laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery, complex anorectal disease, and sphincter-preserving surgery for rectal cancer.

After earning his medical degree at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Mustain completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky (UK) Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. During residency he spent two years as a surgical research fellow in the UK Markey Cancer Center conducting basic science research in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. After residency he completed fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center-Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and is a donor to the ACS Professional Association Political Action Committee.
