National Nutrition Expert to Give Public Talks at UAMS Jan. 7, 9

The first talk, entitled “Plant-based Nutrition and the Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease,” will take place from 4-5 p.m. in the Jo Ellen Ford Auditorium in the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.

On Jan. 9, Barnard will present, “Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Disease with Plant-based Nutrition,” from noon-1 p.m. in Room G225 in the UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health.

Both talks are open to the public.

Barnard is the author of a dozen books on health and nutrition, including Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes and, most recently, Power Foods for the Brain. He has been a TV guest of Dr. Oz and Ellen DeGeneres and on Access Hollywood and cited by publications such as the New York Times and U.S. News and World Report. He has also published in peer-reviewed journals on the benefits of vegetarian, vegan and low fat diets on weight loss, control of diabetes, cardiovascular health and the risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

Barnard is an adjunct associate professor of medicine in the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where he also received his medical degree. He is president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and president of the Washington Center for Clinical Research.
