South Central Telehealth Forum to be Held May 9
| LITTLE ROCK — The second annual telehealth conference for the Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee region to promote the use of telecommunications technologies to support distance health care will be May 9 at the Statehouse Convention Center.
The South Central Telehealth Forum is organized by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Center for Distance Health and the South Central Telehealth Resource Center (SCTRC), which serves Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Experts from the region will give presentations, lead discussions and network about telehealth.

Keynote speaker will be Carl W. Taylor, CEO of Isaiah Health and founding partner of the Princeton Junction, N.J.-based Fraser Institute for Health and Risk Analytics. Taylor is an acknowledged leader in the areas of health care informatics, patient- and family-centered care and disaster response.
The conference also will feature nationally recognized speakers and panelists from Minnesota, Washington, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Discussion panels will focus on Launching Your Project, Sustaining Your Project and Advancing Your Program & Policy.
Two pre-conference workshops, Telehealth Fundamentals and Telepresenting — Advancing Practice and Patient Care Delivery during Virtual Encounters with Physicians and Specialists, start at noon May 8. “We want people to leave the conference this year with an actual set of next steps when they go home. Instead of leaving with general concepts in mind, we want them to leave with specific, tangible things they can do,” said Sarah Rhoads Kinder, Ph.D., assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “The SCTRC and UAMS want to encourage health care administrators, nurses, physicians, clinical information technology leaders and others with an interest in the field to attend.”
Several technology vendors and other businesses and organizations also will have booths and exhibitions at the conference. Continuing education credits will be offered.
The SCTRC functions primarily through a website that works in partnership with the UAMS Center for Distance Health’s Training Center. The SCTRC focuses on telehealth education and peer interactions online. It also conducts hands-on training in its training center or on site. The project is funded by the federal Health Resource Services Administration’s Office for the Advancement of Telehealth through the Telehealth Resource Center grant program.
