Daisy Lamb Named Cancer Institute Volunteer of the Year

Oct. 17, 2013 | For more than four years, Daisy Lamb has been a familiar face at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.
As one of the first volunteers in the Most Vital Pal (MVP) program, Lamb has helped many patients adjust to their first day of cancer treatment by escorting them from appointment to appointment and explaining what they can expect in the days to come.
Thanks to her efforts and giving spirit, she was named 2013 Volunteer of the Year by the Cancer Institute Auxiliary. The award was presented at the auxiliary’s annual fall luncheon held at the home of Lindsey Watson Allen.
“Daisy is a lovely, sweet and gentle lady. We often have patients tell us how much she helped them. She is friendly, efficient and compassionate, which are all wonderful traits that make her an outstanding volunteer,” said Janie Lowe, director of the Cancer Institute’s Department of Volunteer Services and Auxiliary.
MVPs are paired with new patients for the entirety of their first day on the UAMS campus. They escort patients to their appointments, offer encouragement, act as a liaison with staff and ensure that patients have the individualized attention they need.
Each year, the Cancer Institute Auxiliary selects one outstanding volunteer as Volunteer of the Year. These volunteers give unselfishly of their time and talents to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families.
