Sept. 8, 2010 | Sept. 8, 2010 | Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in men, yet many men never have any symptoms. Free prostate cancer screenings will be offered Friday, Sept. 17, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

In fact, this type of cancer can cause no symptoms for many years. Prostate cancer is often detected during a routine examination. UAMS can help you from the diagnosis to the treatment of prostate cancer.

Screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the 6th floor of the Cancer Institute on the UAMS campus. The screening is free but a reservation is required. For a reservation, call 501-296-1508 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. starting Sept. 8.

Free parking is available in UAMS Parking 3 but parking stubs must be brought to the screenings for validation.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. Regular prostate examinations are recommended for men 50-75 years of age, or starting at age 40 for African American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer.
