Water Wellness

Exercising in the water may be the perfect answer to your fitness needs or goals. With pain-free, low impact movements, exercise in water can help improve your overall health and speed recovery from a recent injury or illness. Water exercise can often help you heal after undergoing surgery.

Water wellness is also a great option if you want to:

  • Increase your metabolism
  • Build muscle tone and strength
  • Improve balance, coordination and range of motion
  • Relieve tension

The UAMS Water Wellness Program is offered at the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute. The program offers a variety of aquatic exercise classes for adults 18 years and older. Free, convenient parking is available in Parking Deck 3.

When you join the Water Wellness program you also have access to the Ottenheimer Fitness Center at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. Easy access between the two building is offered through an enclosed walkway.

Our facility in the Spine and Neurosciences Institute includes a whirlpool room next to the pool, a ramp for handicap accessibly and a unique walking track in waist-deep water with handrails. The Ottenhemier Fitness Center includes a variety of cardiovascular equipment as well as state-of-the-art strength training machines.

You may participate in organized classes, design your own fitness program or practice exercises provided by a physical or occupational therapist. You can target specific body areas to exercise or combine several movements for a complete head-to-toe activity.
