The UAMS Kidney Center is staffed by specially trained physicians called nephrologists, who are experts in a wide range of problems relating to the kidneys. If you are living with a kidney (renal) disorder, our physicians, dialysis experts and other medical professionals can help you improve your quality of life.
UAMS nephrologists are board certified to help patients manage all stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Our patient education program will help you learn more about the strategies we use to slow the progression of your disease and about options for dialysis therapy or kidney transplantation if they become necessary. We are one of only a few programs in Arkansas that provide training and support for patients receiving home hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Appointments with the Kidney Center are by referral only. Please contact your primary care doctor or visit one of our doctors in the Center for Primary Care to obtain a referral.

What should I bring to the appointment?
For your first appointment, please bring a photo ID and your insurance card along with a list of any medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter medications. You should also bring any medical records you can provide, including slides or test results from other clinics.
For future appointments, please provide updated medical and insurance information.
How do I request a prescription refill or contact a nurse from the clinic?
To refill a prescription, please ask your pharmacy to send an eScribe request to our clinic, or you can request a refill during your appointment. If you originally filled your prescription at the UAMS Outpatient Pharmacy, you can also refill your prescription online.
